DALLAS, TX (December 19, 2008) – In response to President-elect Barack Obama’s nationwide drive to gather public input on improving our nation’s health care system, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is convening a health care community discussion to help identify new ideas on how to shape the new administration’s health care policy.
The community discussion will take place on December 19, 2008 at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® National offices in Dallas.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is thrilled to join affiliates from around the nation and our 200,000 champions in sharing priorities for cancer care and health care reform with President-elect Obama’s transition team. Once gathered, the top priorities and collective wisdom of our activists will be delivered to the Obama transition team.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure® applauds former Senator Tom Daschle, who will head the Department of Health and Human Services and serve as Director for the new White House Office of Health Reform, for reaching out to everyday Americans to help address what will surely be one of the most difficult challenges facing the new administration. Breast cancer survivors, grantees and grassroots champions at Susan G. Komen for the Cure® are coming together between now and December 31st to answer his call and look forward to sharing their thoughts, experiences and priorities.
Whether it’s increasing access to cancer screening and early detection, closing the gap in access to early detection services and treatment, or ensuring all Americans have access to affordable health insurance, there is much work to be done. Komen is grateful for the opportunity to join thousands of Americans from vital constituencies to provide input to the incoming administration and have a direct say in our nation’s health reform efforts.
